Information on Sacramento Area Sewer District
The Sacramento Area Sewer District (SASD) currently provides service to residential, commercial, and industrial customers throughout unincorporated Sacramento County; the cities of Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Sacramento, and West Sacramento; and the communities of Courtland, Locke, and Walnut Grove. The services we provide vary based on the location within our service area. We are the second largest sewage collection utility in California, and we own and operate the second largest water resource recovery facility of its kind in the nation, the EchoWater Resource Recovery Facility located near Elk Grove.
Relations between Sacramento Area Sewer District and these contributing agencies are governed by a Master Interagency Agreement.
In addition to the agency described above, there are several other agencies providing wastewater services in rural areas.
- The Cities of Galt and Isleton operate and maintain their own facilities.
- The Rancho Murieta Community Services District operates and maintains their local water system, sewer system, and storm drainage system. Water is diverted from the Cosumnes River, held in storage reservoirs, customers are served, wastewater is collected and treated, and reclaimed water is used for irrigation purposes.
- A number of public agencies operate wastewater treatment facilities. These include the Metropolitan Airport and the Boys Ranch.
- County Sanitation District No.1 owns and operates wastewater treatment facilities at Walnut Grove and Courtland. The costs of operation and maintenance of these facilities are financed by monthly service charges billed by this District.
