Information on Sacramento County Mosquito Abatement District

The Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District provides mosquito and vector control services to both Sacramento and Yolo counties. The District employs fifty full-time employees and approximately ten seasonal employees (June-September). Both counties are divided into zones with technicians responsible for specific areas of the zones. Attempt is made to coordinate control measures around the life cycle of the targeted mosquitoes. All measures of Integrated Pest Management are used to control mosquitoes in Sacramento and Yolo counties.

In the winter months, employees perform general maintenance work on equipment and conduct surveillance in search of ticks. Water management projects continue during this time to eliminate or reduce the size of mosquito breeding areas. Yellow-jacket control is performed during the months of July, August and September.
